Not just about the Cobb angle
Using a 3D scan before during and after bracing it is possible to see the body alignment changes.
These images are of a 9 year old girl with right thoracic scoliosis before bracing and after 6 weeks as well as 5 months after bracing with GBW brace. Scans are performed of the relaxed standing position.
Compliance or adherence is important! The recommended duration of brace wear varies between 16 and 23 hours per day to achieve optimal results, often depending on the specific curve's risk of progression. Effective adherence is crucial; studies indicate higher success rates in patients who consistently wear their brace for the prescribed duration. The goal is to stabilize or reduce the curve as the patient approaches skeletal maturity.

When bracing for scoliosis it is not only about the Cobb angle. It is about leaving the child with the best body alignment possible at the end of bracing. Our goals of treatment for children with idiopathic scoliosis should be stopping curve progression and REDUCING the curves when possible, avoid the need for spinal fusion surgery. At the same time aiming for reducing the ATR (rotation of trunk) AND improving body alignment.
